Player protection

Responsible Gambling

Gambling should remain entertainment. On this page you will learn how games of chance work, how to recognise problematic gambling behaviour and which protection tools are available to you at mycasino.

Minimum age 18

Only adults may play at mycasino. An account can only be opened from age 18, and your age is checked against an official ID document during verification.

If minors have access to your computer, tablet or smartphone, log out after playing, do not save your password in the browser and, if necessary, use the parental controls of your operating system.

Without successful verification of age and identity, a temporary player account is blocked after a maximum of 30 days.

Player protection

As a licensed Swiss casino, Grand Casino Luzern AG is required under the Federal Act on Gambling (BGS) to protect its players from excessive gambling. Compliance with these obligations is monitored by the Federal Gaming Board (ESBK).

Our protection framework is built on several elements:

  • Identity checks and a check against the Swiss register of gambling exclusions
  • Deposit and loss limits that you set yourself
  • Gaming breaks and voluntary exclusions
  • Information about the risks, an anonymous self-assessment and pointers to support services
  • Involuntary exclusions where there are signs that a person is at risk

The tools are available at any time in your customer account.

How games of chance work

The outcome of every round – on a slot machine, at roulette or at a live table – is determined by chance. Previous results have no influence on the next round: after ten reds, black is not "due", and a slot machine is not "ready to pay" after a long time without a win.

Every casino game is designed so that the casino has an advantage in the long run. Wins are possible in the short term, but the longer you play, the more this advantage comes into effect.

The secret of winning

There isn't one. No system, strategy or "gut feeling" can outsmart chance. Anyone who claims otherwise is not telling the truth.

  • Gambling is not a source of income and not a way out of financial difficulties.
  • Only stake money you can afford to lose.
  • Think of your stakes as the price of entertainment – like a cinema or concert ticket.
  • Never try to win back losses by playing more.

Recognising gambling addiction

Gambling addiction usually develops gradually. What starts as occasional entertainment can slowly take up more time, money and attention than you actually want. Family members often notice the change before the person concerned does.

Possible warning signs include:

  • You play for longer or with higher stakes than planned.
  • You try to make up for losses by playing more.
  • You borrow money or put off paying bills so that you can play.
  • You hide your gambling from family or friends.
  • You feel irritable or restless when you cannot play.
  • Work, family or leisure time suffer because of gambling.

If you recognise yourself in some of these points, take it seriously. The self-assessment can help with an initial assessment, and the support organisations offer confidential advice.

Self-assessment: your gambling behaviour

The following ten questions help you assess your gambling behaviour over the last 12 months. The self-assessment is anonymous and takes only a few minutes.

Please answer each question honestly, thinking about the last 12 months.

Question 1 of 10

Have you staked more money than you could afford to lose?

This self-assessment does not replace a professional diagnosis. Your answers are not stored and are not sent to us.

Deposit limits

A deposit limit sets the maximum amount of money you can pay into your player account. The limit can apply per day, week or month, and deposits are only possible within the amount you have set.

  • Reduction: a lower limit applies immediately.
  • Increase: a higher limit only applies after a waiting period of 7 days; until then the previous limit remains in place.
  • Cancellation: you can withdraw a pending increase at any time.

The waiting period is deliberate: it prevents a limit from being raised on impulse in an emotional moment. You set deposit limits in your customer account.

Loss limits

A loss limit caps the amount you can lose within a given period – that is, stakes minus winnings. You can also set this limit per day, week or month.

As with the deposit limit, a reduction applies immediately, while an increase only takes effect after 7 days. A pending increase can be cancelled.

Tip: combine both limits. The deposit limit controls how much money goes into your account; the loss limit controls the most you can lose of it. You can set up both in your customer account.

Gaming breaks

Sometimes a little distance is all it takes. In your customer account you can take a gaming break and choose from four periods:

  • 24 hours
  • 7 days
  • 30 days
  • 6 weeks

During the break, deposits and games are blocked. Your account remains viewable, so you can still check your balance and settings.

A gaming break cannot be ended early, so please choose the period carefully. You activate a gaming break in your customer account.

Voluntary exclusion

If you no longer want to play for a longer period, you can request a voluntary exclusion (self-exclusion) – directly in your customer account or via our Contact page.

A special feature of Switzerland: gambling exclusions are recorded in a shared register. The exclusion therefore applies not only at mycasino but at all licensed casinos in Switzerland – land-based and online – as well as at the corresponding offerings in Liechtenstein.

An exclusion is an effective form of protection if you notice that limits and breaks are no longer enough. It does not end automatically.

Involuntary exclusion

Under Art. 80 BGS, Grand Casino Luzern AG must exclude a person if, on the basis of reports from third parties or its own observations, it knows or must assume that this person:

  • is over-indebted,
  • is not meeting their financial obligations, or
  • is placing stakes that are out of proportion to their income and assets.

An involuntary exclusion is also recorded in the shared register and applies at all Swiss casinos and the corresponding offerings in Liechtenstein. It serves to protect the person concerned and the people around them.

Lifting an exclusion

An exclusion can be lifted no earlier than 3 months after it begins, and only at your request. There is no automatic lifting once a period has expired.

Before an exclusion is lifted, we check whether the reasons for it no longer apply. This includes a conversation about your current situation.

If you would like to request that an exclusion be lifted, please contact us via our Contact page. We will explain the next steps.

Help and advice

You do not have to face worries about your gambling – or that of someone close to you – alone. The following services offer confidential help:

Telephone helpline, anonymous and available around the clock.

  • Federal Gaming Board (ESBK)

Supervisory authority for Swiss casinos, with information on player protection and exclusions.
